The processor has been linked to security software developed by partner Intoto Inc.

San Diego-based Tarari said it offers three families of ASIC processors at 1, 2 and 4 Gbits/s, as well as software-only accelerators at 50 and 200 Mbits/s.

While previous generations have focused on general-purpose XML and SOAP processing, the new generation represents a move by Tarari toward additional security functions outside cryptography. In particular, the drive by OEMs to create unified threat management systems combining intrusion prevention and detection, anti-spam, and anti-virus functions, has led to a broader use of adjunct software in content acceleration.

Doug Makashima, vice president of marketing of embedded security vendor Intoto (Santa Clara, Calif.), said the RegEx4 was the first generation of Tarari processor to be linked to Intoto's IntruPro intrusion-prevention software (IPS). Makashima called the alliance between Tarari and Intoto “a natural outgrowth of the use of pattern-matching tools in IPS and deep content inspection.”

Tarari and Intoto began informally collaborating with Intel Corp. in a series of seminars this summer, but the Tarari-Intoto alliance for RegEx4 represents the first formal relationship.

Tarari also is working with Mail-filters.com on an anti-spam software solution to be linked with RegEx4 processors.
