Sunnyvale, CA---April 20, 2000---Continuing the company's growth, Monterey Design Systems today announced that it is strengthening its executive team by filling two key executive positions with the hiring of two EDA veterans: Bill Alexander and Henry Verheyen.

Bill Alexander comes from Avanti and joins as vice president of marketing and Henry Verheyen comes from Aptix and joins as vice president of engineering. The company is also expanding its headquarter facilities in Sunnyvale by moving into a larger space to accommodate the growing work force of the company.

"We now have in place an outstanding executive team to take the company forward as we expand our presence in the IC design industry," stated Jacques Benkoski, president and CEO of Monterey Design Systems. "Both Bill and Henry bring tremendous industry expertise and talent in their respective areas that will be a significant asset to Monterey. We are also very pleased to expand our office facilities to more comfortably accommodate new employees from our recent growth."

Henry Verheyen joins the company as vice president of engineering. Previously he held executive positions at Aptix, Viewlogic/Synopsys and Avanti. An EDA veteran, Verheyen was an early developer and manager in place and route products for Cadence, Quickturn, Xilinx, and Aptix and has a deep understanding of today's design tools and methodologies, both from a user and vendor perspective. Most notably, Verheyen was in charge of products such as VCS and Motive at Viewlogic. Verheyen received his BSEE and MSEE degrees from Delft University, Netherlands.

Dr. William T. Alexander joins the company as vice president of marketing and comes to the company from Avanti Corp. where he lead the strategic corporate initiatives and third-party relationships. Alexander has extensive experience in product marketing, customer development and support in the ASIC design industry. He previously worked for LSI Logic and National Semiconductor in various marketing and management roles with worldwide responsibilities. Alexander received his BSc. in Physics and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Kent, Canterbury, England.

In addition to the growth of the executive management team, the company this week moved its Sunnyvale headquarters into a larger facility at its original location on Ross Drive. As a result, Monterey has almost doubled its office space to about 25,000 square feet. The increased space provides the room necessary for the planned growth of the company as it implements its strategic plans to market and deliver a complete physical design solution and introduce new business models to increase productivity through collaboration in the design process by leveraging the internet infrastructure.
