SEOUL, South Korea — Pantech Group, South Korea's No. 2 mobile phone maker, has signed an agreement to supply an elderly-friendly 3G CDMA phone model to Japanese mobile telecommunications service carrier KDDI, in a deal pegged at $110 million.

Shipments of the mobile phone, dubbed A1406PT, will start in September throughout Japanese markets, under joint-brand name Pantech-au and targeting middle-aged and elderly Japanese consumers, Pantech said in a statement.

The "au" is one of Japan's leading mobile phone brands, owned by KDDI.

"We expect to ship $110 million worth of the third-generation CDMA mobile phone by the end of this year," a Pantech spokesman said.

The A1406PT adds security and convenience functions. Three one-touch dial keys under the main display allow users to dial three different numbers with a single keystroke. The phone also has a 2.4-inch LCD screen and an emergency security alarm activated via a button on front of the handset.

The agreement comes six months after Pantech supplied its A1405PT phone to Japan in reportedly the first shipment to Japan by a Korean mobile phone maker.
