LONDON — Cenamps, a national centre for nanotechnology in the U.K., has hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for PETeC, a £10 million (about $20 million) plastics electronics technology center at Sedgefield, near Durham, England.

PETeC is expected to become a national prototyping operation providing clean rooms and laboratories, as well as production and testing equipment which will be available on an open access basis.

Technologies supported are set to include smart packaging, electronic newspapers, intelligent signage, point-of-care medical diagnostic devices, drug delivery devices, printed electronics for consumer products, flexible solar cells and solid state lighting.

"This center will provide a bridge between the lab and the factory to facilitate the commercialization of new products," said Mike Pitkethly, CEO of Cenamps, in a statement.
