MUNICH, Germany Certain batteries in Nokia handsets can overheat and dislodge, the company warns. Affected are batteries of the type BL-5C, manufactured by Matsushita between December 2005 and November 2006. Overall, 46 millions of these batteries have been shipped to customers.
The Nokia-branded batteries can experience overheating, caused by a short circuit during charging. In this "very rare case" the battery can dislodge, the company informed. Presently, about 100 incidents have been reported globally, with no serious injury known.
For its BL-5C battery, of which the company has shipped more than 300 million, Nokia has several suppliers. Only batteries produced by Matsushita are affected by the problem.
