LONDON Mororola's venture arm has joined in the latest $37 million financing round of fabless supplier of smart-card chips Inside Contactless SA (Aix en Provence, France).
The round C that has just closed also includes smart card systems specialist HID Global, as well as previously announced investors Nokia Ventures, which joined existing investors Sofinnova Partners, Vertex Management, Vertex Ventures, Siparex, GIMV, EuroUS Venture, Granite Global Ventures and Visa Ventures.
"This investment will allow Inside to expand and accelerate the development of our product lines, and create the conditions for a worldwide success in rollout of NFC," commented Remy de Tonnac, chief executive of Inside Contactless.
"Inside has been a strategic partner of HID since 2001, and we appreciate the market leading positions in contactless payments and in the NFC marketplace which Inside has taken to date", added Denis Hébert, President and CEO of HID Global, in a statement. "These strengths plus the convergence in contactless applications amongst payments, NFC, and access control were drivers to our investment decision."
