OTTAWA TechOnline analysts endured a long wait and a downpour to get their hands on one of the first iPhone 3Gs sold in the Canadian capital.
The wait wasn't without some wheeling and dealing.
The analysts arrived at around 3:30 a.m. local time Friday (July 11) to find 17 people on line. They feared a possible iPhone shortage since some bloggers had warned of retaliation by Apple over negative stories about service provider Rogers Canada and its data rate plans.
Not wanting to come home empty-handed and hearing about a young entrepreneur who was willing to sell his No. 2 spot in the line, the analysts made their move from the back of the line. About 5 hours later, an iPhone was purchased.
The video below documents their ordeal:
A TechOnline teardown found that TriQuint Semiconductor Inc. (Portland, Ore.) was the surprise design winner, supplying three chips for Apple's iPhone 3G.
