SAN FRANCISO— Nokia said Tuesday (Sept. 2) that Samsung Electronics has accepted an offer from the world's No. 1 mobile handset vendor to buy out its stake in software firm Symbian, according to a Reuters report.
Samsung's acceptance of Nokia's offer would remove the final remaining barrier to Nokia's plan, announced in June, to buy the rest of Symbian, the OS company holding two thirds of the global smart phone market.
Nokia has said it would contribute Symbian's source code to open source through the Symbian Foundation, a non-profit organization.
