SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Micron Technology Inc. is quietly looking to enter the graphics DRAM race.
For some time, Micron has been working on a Graphics DDR memory (GDDR) line. GDDR is used in high-speed computers and games.
''We see a number of opportunities in the graphics market,'' said Brian Shirley, vice president of Micron Technology's memory group, at a recent event.
No other details were given. Recently, Japan's Elpida Memory Inc. reached an agreement with Qimonda AG to acquire its graphics DRAM operations. Financial details remained undisclosed.
Hynix, Samsung and others are also in the market.
