SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Moving into a hot market, Integrated Device Technology Inc. (IDT) has purchased the touch sensor technology assets from Leadis Technology Inc.
As part of the plan, San Jose-based IDT will also acquire the Leadis Technology intellectual property and employee teams necessary to execute on the existing roadmap. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
IDT has jumped into a growing field. Atmel, Cypress, Microchip, Synaptics and others also sell touch-screen technology. Apple Inc. is said to make its own touch-screen ASIC for the popular iPhone.
''This strategic capability complements our existing audio, video, timing and power smart technologies to enable us to address a broader range of multimedia applications with highly integrated processing, interfacing and connectivity solutions," said Ted Tewksbury, president and CEO at IDT, in a statement.
Last last year, IDT purchased the video processing technology and related assets from Silicon Optix Inc. for an undisclosed price.
In April, Gennum Corp. said it won't match the roughly $100 million deal that IDT offered to acquire Tundra Semiconductor Corp.
Hurt by a hefty write down, mixed-signal chip vendor IDT recently reported a GAAP net loss of $719.2 million on revenue of $107.4 million for the quarter ended March 29 and said it entered into a definitive agreement to sell assets of its network search engine products to NetLogic Microsystems for $90 million.
