TAIPEI, Taiwan --- Silicon Integrated Systems Corp. (SiS), a supplier of logic and graphics chips for PCs has announced the introduction to the market place of the SiS746FX chip set for PC motherboards that use a processor from Advanced Micro Devices Inc.
The SiS746FX supports a so-called 'front-side' bus that operates at 333-MHz clock frequency, supports double data rate 400-MHz DRAMs, and has an AGP8X graphics interface, the company said.
The 333MHz front-side bus is the latest improvement to the specification of the AMD K7 processor, SiS said. DDR400 memory controller is expected to become a mainstream requirement in 2004 the company added.
The company did not say how the SiS746FX compared with chip sets for AMD motherboards that it is already supplying. Nor did the company discuss how much it will charge for the chips.
"In order to enhance our market share in the AMD platform market, we hope to introduce products with pioneering specifications, outstanding performance, and to create a revolutionary, competitive edge for customers," said Michael Chen, senior vice president of the integrated products division of SiS, in a statement.
