LONDON — Ericsson Technology Licensing has extended its partnership deal with Philips Semiconductors unit. As part of the deal, Philips will license Ericsson's latest baseband platform that supports Bluetooth 1.2 features.

The Q-E1 core provides a baseband development system, is fully scalable and is based on Ericsson's fifth generation Bluetooth baseband technology. The part is one of the first to enable designers to deliver Bluetooth 1.2 functionality, including better voice and audio quality and improved coexistence with other wireless technologies.

"Ericsson's new core has everything we want for our Bluetooth 1.2 solutions," said Paul Marino, vice president and general manager of Business Line Connectivity at Philips Semiconductors. "Philips is committed to providing our customers with fully compliant Bluetooth 1.2 products based on proven core technology, enabling us to be among the first to launch products with these new features."

Among the features implemented on the IP core are adaptive frequency hopping for more secure coexistence with other networks operating in the 2.4-GHz frequency range, including WLANs, Extended SCO and Scatternet functionality for running multiple Bluetooth networks or piconets simultaneously.
