SANTA CLARA, Calif.--National Semiconductor Corp. today said it was joining forces with nearby Jungo SoftwareTechnologies Inc. to enable original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to quickly develop residential gateways.
Under the alliance National Semiconductor will distribute development platforms featuring its Geode processor bundled with Jungo's OpenRG software for evaluation and development of residential gateways.
"With many vendors promoting box solutions of similar features, Jungo's OpenRG software can provide the differentiation that OEMs seek," said Jeff Waters, director of the Consumer Access Business Unit at National in Santa Clara. National's Geode process contains an X86 processor core and a variety of peripheral functions supporting Ethernet networks, wireless card connections and hard disk drives. Waters said Jungo's networking software and development tools will ease of leveraging Geode's features for differentiated residential gateways.
Jungo also sees a huge potential in opening up differentiation between products. "As the broadband access market burgeons, OEMs are facing fierce competition and therefore are looking for an out-of-the-box solution," said Udi Yuhjtman, vice president of Operations and Business Development for Jungo in Sunnyvale, Calif.
Both companies plan to be exhibiting their combined products for residential gateways during next week's Comdex Fall 2001 show in Las Vegas. National said it will distribute its SP4SC30 development platform with Jungo's OpenRG software. The platform, Geode chip, and software are all now available.
