AUSTIN, Tex. -- Cirrus Logic Inc. here today announced plans to collaborate with IndigoVision Group plc. of Scotland to jointly develop real-time networked video capability in Cirrus' Maverick chip set product line.
According to the two companies, jointly-developed ICs and software will address embedded designs for networked video over the Internet in a range of consumer applications during the next couple of years. These systems include digital TVs, handheld devices, set-top boxes, video replay boxes, video servers and closed circuit TVs.
The partnership also aims to offer new video products that will further enhance portability and mobility of industrial applications in security and surveillance markets.
"As broadband access proliferates over the next two to three years in the consumer marketplace, we envision a demand for real-time video just as there is for MP3 audio today," said Scott McDonald, vice president of marketing for Cirrus Logic's Embedded Processors Division.
Edinburgh-based IndigoVision has developed five generations of its VideoBridge technology, which is a set of hardware and software supporting Internet protocol video (IPV) capabilities. VideoBridge combines the elements of visual communications into an integrated suite of technology for video acquisition, compression, transmission, analysis, recording, administration and viewing, according to six-year-old IndigoVision.
Sergio Tansini, chief operating officer of IndigoVision, claimed the new chip-set alliance with Cirrus Logic was a "landmark for the Internet protocol video (IPV) technology industry." He said the pact with Cirrus Logic "will offer product designers a unique opportunity to enable full frame, real time, audio-visual communications for Internet and telecommunications applications and will change the way the world communicates."
