MANHASSET, NY — Mentor Graphics has combined its embedded compression and Automatic Test Pattern Generation (ATPG) technology with Built-In Self-Test (BIST) technology from recently-acquired LogicVision into the new Tessent product line.

The Tessent line, which expands on both companies' earlier separate offerings, includes LogicVision's SiliconInsight product, Mentor's layout-aware diagnosis tools, and the newly-announced Tessent YieldInsight product.

LogicVision Inc. had a product called Yield Insight which it rolled out at the International Test Conference in 2006. The company also rolled out Scanburst, which provides timing information to Mentor Graphics ATPG tools.

At the 40th ITC 2009 in Austin, Texas Mentor Graphics is announcing the YieldInsight product that statistically analyzes large volumes of production test failure diagnosis data produced by the Tessent Diagnosis tool, formerly called YieldAssist.

"We are really closing the design-to-silicon loop by extracting statistical information from silicon test failure data and using it to identify precisely where in the design or manufacturing process we can best impact yield and quality," said Joseph Sawicki, vice president and general manager for the Design-to-Silicon Division at Mentor Graphics, in a statement.

The Tessent YieldInsight tool brings design-correlated analysis methods to supplement traditional fab-centric yield management systems.

It steps the user through the process of selecting and filtering populations of failing die, grouping die that are failing for similar reasons, and analyzing various aspects of these populations to identify and locate systematic yield loss mechanisms.

Going forward, Mentor's BIST offerings will be based on the former LogicVision platform and the ATPG offerings on Mentor's TestKompress and FastScan platform.

Although some of Mentor's former BIST products and LogicVision's former ATPG products will be discontinued, they will continue to be supported for existing customers until they transition to the new products, according to Sawicki.
