SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 11, 2003--MontaVista Software Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution, today introduced MontaVista(R) DevRocket(TM), a new advanced development environment that forms an integral part of MontaVista Linux Professional Edition 3.1, also announced today. (see http://www.mvista.com/news/2003/pro3_1.html).

MontaVista DevRocket 1.0 is a fully integrated and graphical development environment designed to facilitate system software and applications development. MontaVista DevRocket, based on Eclipse technology, provides a common look-and-feel across development host platforms including Windows, Solaris and Linux. MontaVista DevRocket is built on the latest Eclipse 2.1 base, letting customers and ISVs take full advantage of the Eclipse platform, including third-party development work contributed by the Eclipse community, as well as a multitude of Eclipse-supported tools.

Developers can code in C or C+ and use MontaVista DevRocket to jump-start development through the automation of many project tasks. In addition to integrating core development capabilities such as compilation, editing and debugging, DevRocket provides easy-to-use project wizards designed to automate common embedded development activities. These project wizards simplify complex and lengthy tasks, freeing up valuable project time, which allows developers to focus on areas of product differentiation and speed products to market. Developers can configure and build deployable platform images, by selecting and scaling content based on a particular project's needs. They can right-size applications, trace and analyze system events, and identify and remedy memory leaks.

"Leading companies around the world are adopting and building on MontaVista Linux across the gamut of industries," said Glenn Seiler, MontaVista director of product marketing. "MontaVista DevRocket continues to extend the utility and flexibility of embedded Linux, making our products easier to use, and delivering tremendous time to market and development cost advantages to our customers."

"Availability of an advanced and easy-to-use development environment is critical to the success of the rapidly expanding embedded developer market," noted Kevin Morgan, vice president, Engineering, MontaVista Software. "Eclipse technology is now the industry standard for integrated development environment (IDE) solutions. With unique MontaVista Linux integration and powerful tool extensions, MontaVista DevRocket will dramatically improve embedded software developer productivity."

    Availability

MontaVista DevRocket is available as part of MontaVista Linux Professional Edition 3.1, direct from MontaVista and MontaVista distribution channels worldwide in the 4th quarter of 2003. MontaVista Professional Edition is offered as a product subscription, providing customers with the MontaVista Linux kernel, utilities, development tools, software updates, deployment components, access to the MontaVista Zone (customer resource portal), comprehensive technical support and hands-on Linux training classes.     About Eclipse Technology

Eclipse is an open standard development environment, based on Java, which runs on multiple development hosts, including Linux, Solaris and Windows. Eclipse technology allows developers on a project to share the same toolset, irrespective of their development host. The advantage of this open development environment is that tools from different vendors work together seamlessly, letting developers choose the right tools to meet their project needs. MontaVista Software CEO and president, James Ready, serves on the board of directors of eclipse.org, furthering the MontaVista commitment to Eclipse.
