RESTON, Va., March 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Planning Systems Incorporated (PSI), a leading network centric technology development company and a wholly owned subsidiary of Foster-Miller, Inc., itself a QinetiQ Company, is pleased to announce that its SECURES Gunshot Detection and Localization System has been selected for deployment in Harrisburg, PA. SECURES(R) was selected by the Dauphin County District Attorney's Office for deployment in crime challenged areas in the City of Harrisburg based on its proven performance and ability to aid in reducing gun related crime.

SECURES(R) is an acoustic Gunshot Detection System (GDS) that has been proven to significantly deter violent crime and reduce calls for service by as much as 85%. This provides a powerful force multiplier for law enforcement. It can allow police to respond quickly to gunshot incidents and make apprehensions helping to better protect communities. From the time of a gunshot incident to the localized display on a GIS map, the elapsed time is only 3-5 seconds. Localization is accomplished usually within ten feet and correlated with the closest street address provided by the GIS database.

PSI, the provider of SECURES(R), also maintains the exclusive patent rights for the integration of acoustic gunshot detection systems integrated with video surveillance systems. Such integrated systems have proven to disrupt drug and gang related activities, which in turn helps to reduce associated violent crime.

George Orrison, PSI's Director of Marketing - Security Technologies states, "We are excited about working in concert with the District Attorney's Office and the Harrisburg Bureau of Police in providing our SECURES(R) technology as a tool to assist Law Enforcement in reducing violent crime. There is no doubt that the benefits that will be gained by using this technology will also be felt in and around the communities in which it is used. PSI is dedicated in providing meaningful law enforcement technologies to help make our streets a safer place for all."

Ed Marsico, Dauphin County District Attorney, added, "We are pleased to have PSI as our partner in providing their SECURES(R) gunshot detection system as yet another means to enhance our abilities to combat crime, enforce our laws and create a safer environment for our citizens. This will also enhance the overall efforts by the County Commissioner's Office and the launch of their 'R U Tired?' Forums. The Dauphin County Commissioners are using these forums to reach out to their citizens who are tired of gun violence, crime, drug use, bullying, and other such issues in our neighborhoods."
