Purdue researchers build made-to-order nanotubes
News & Analysis
10/23/2002   Post a comment
Using a more complex system of atoms than carbon nanotubes, scientists at Purdue University have devised a tunable approach to nanotube creation that allows them to build application-specific varieties.
Study reveals nanoscale structure in amorphous material
News & Analysis
10/17/2002   Post a comment
The common view that amorphous materials are simply jumbled collections of atoms may give way to a more ordered theory of the materials' formation, according to experiments conducted at the University of North Carolina.
Nanotube welding eyed for ultradense circuits
News & Analysis
10/2/2002   Post a comment
An international consortium of researchers believes its electron-beam method for joining nanotubes could be applied to the construction of ultradense circuits. Rather than add a "glue" material between nanotubes, the electron beam knocks out atoms from between touching nanotubes. The tubes heal the defect by sharing an atom and thereby create a weld between them.

NEXT UPCOMING BROADCAST
In conjunction with unveiling of EE Times’ Silicon 60 list, journalist & Silicon 60 researcher Peter Clarke hosts a conversation on startups in the electronics industry. One of Silicon Valley's great contributions to the world has been the demonstration of how the application of entrepreneurship and venture capital to electronics and semiconductor hardware can create wealth with developments in semiconductors, displays, design automation, MEMS and across the breadth of hardware developments. But in recent years concerns have been raised that traditional venture capital has turned its back on hardware-related startups in favor of software and Internet applications and services. Panelists from incubators join Peter Clarke in debate.
