Blending Java and biofeedback technologies, Internet Golf Multimedia Inc. (Bronx, N.Y.) has created what it calls the world's first smart golf club, which a user can link to the Internet to compete in a global golf competition.
Ford enlists neural net to mind auto emissions

Ford Motor Co. is applying a neural-network technology developed at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) to meet the more stringent automotive-emissions standards of the next millennium. The recurrent neural network receives raw sensor data from a vehicle's engine and learns to detect and identify, in real-time, malfunctioning components that contribute to pollution emissions.

Condensation, a perfectly lossless compression technology derived from quantum thermodynamics, achieved a new high in image compression this week when BitJazz Inc. announced a 2.5 average compression ratio for PhotoJazz.
Heads-up displays get peripheral vision

Heads-up displays, popularized in the Gulf War, where pilots used the windscreen overlays to direct smart bombs to their targets, are getting an important intuitive addition based on work here at the University of Idaho. With a recent $474,000 Air Force Office of Scientific Research award to psychologist Brian Dyre, he and a half-dozen of his students will investigate the use of "peripheral vision" in heads-up displays.

An artificial tongue that can "taste" the chemicals in substances has been created by researchers at the University Of Texas here.
