Die Designkosten für Systeme, die hauptsächlich auf SOCs basieren, sind bis dato immens hoch und sind eigentlich nur bei Projekten mit sehr hohen Stückzahlen gerechtfertigt, wie zum Beispiel Handys, set-top Boxen oder Videospielen. Die vorherrschende EDA-Technik kann die hohe Komplexität derzeit nur mit manueller Intervention in den Griff bekommen - und dann aber mit hohen Kosten.
