TOKYO Toshiba Corp. continues to push the state of the art in display density, introducing a 10.4-inch LCD module with an extremely small 0.132-mm dot pitch and a 1,600 x 1,200-pixel UXGA format that's more familiar on displays twice its size.
The active matrix of the Model LTM10C386 LCD is based on polysilicon thin-film transistors manufactured with a low-temperature process. With a 192-pixel/inch resolution, the display is capable of "producing images matching those found in high-quality printed materials," said Steve Vrablick, director of business development at Toshiba America Electronic Components Inc. (Deerfield, Ill.). "The new LCD can display a 2-million-plus image taken with a digital still camera without any reduction in the resolution level," he said.
The display outputs 150 nits of brightness and delivers a 262,000-color palette. Contrast ratio is 250:1. Response time is 40 milliseconds. At a 70-nit level, power consumption is 3.7 watts. The LCD module measures 173.2 mm (high) x 238.6 (wide) x 6.6 (deep) and weighs about 300 grams. It will start sampling in October for $1,371.
