LONDON A number of executives are leaving wireless chip company ST-Ericsson NV (Geneva, Switzerland) or taking up new positions, under a re-organization announced at the same time as the company's second quarter financial results.
Robert Puskaric, who had been executive vice president and deputy CEO as part of the balance of power between parents STMicroelectronics and Ericsson, is to leave ST-Ericsson to take on another appointment at Ericsson.
Tommi Uhari, who had been senior vice president responsible for products, is becoming a "senior advisor" to CEO Alain Dutheil who has announced a new segmented company organization.
Monica de Virgiliis, who had been vice president responsible for wireless multimedia, is set to leave the company to pursue other career opportunities. Until then, she will act as senior advisor to the CEO for the implementation of the new organization, ST-Ericsson said.
ST-Ericsson will now be divided into three product groups: LTE and HSPA-connected devices, led by vice presidents Magnus Hansson for 3G-multimedia platforms, Marc Cetto for 2G, EDGE, TD-SCDMA and connectivity led by Thierry Tingaud.
No additional job cutting measures were announced. The loss of 500 jobs contributed to charges of $250 million for restructuring in the wake of the combination of ST's and NXP's mobile chip activities, which in turn contributed to the increased losses reported by the company.
ST-Ericsson's three-division structure will be supported by a shared R&D organization, led by Philippe Berger. Joergen Lantto has been appointed executive vice president, chief technology officer and head of strategy and Pascal Langlois become chief sales and marketing officer.
The following positions of the management team reporting to President and CEO Alain Dutheil remain unchanged: Timothy Lucie-Smith, vice president and chief financial officer; Abhijit Bhattacharya, vice president operations and quality; Jean-Louis Champseix, vice president human resources; Claudia Levo, vice president global communications; Lotta Westerlund, vice president of legal affairs.
Alain Dutheil said: "The new organization we are announcing today will allow us to timely and successfully execute on our new product strategy, based on the future convergence to one 3G roadmap, a continued commitment on 2G/EDGE and connectivity, as well as a strong focus on TD-SCDMA and on fast-growing next-generation access technologies such as LTE. Additionally, it will enable us to complete the integration of the different businesses we merged five months ago and provide our customers with a world-leading and even more compelling portfolio."
