Welcome to the EE Times Online PayChecker, based on the results of the 1998 EE Times "Salary & Opinion Survey" of 681 design and development engineers and managers. The PayChecker offers an interactive way of checking what a typical engineer's salary would be measured against five factors:

  • Region
  • Experience
  • Technical Skills
  • Age
  • Job Title

By selecting from a menu of choices in a particular variable, you can get a mean salary, for instance, for an engineer with 10 to 14 years of experience.

While our mean salaries are accurate on a national or regional basis, they can't be used to measure the salary of a 40-year-old New England senior engineer with 10 years experience in ASIC design, for example. Only one variable at a time can be calculated.

In consequence, we wouldn't recommend that you run into your boss' office complaining about your salary in Milwaukee vs. the mean in Santa Clara, Calif. Cost of living and competitive business pressures will be entirely different.
