Eastman Kodak and Lexar Media have introduced new memory cards for high-speed processing, rapid-fire still shots, high frame rate video recording and fast computer transfer.

The cards, introduced in Las Vegas Monday, are fully compatible with a long list of consumer electronics devices such as cameras, PDAs, and KODAK Picture Kiosks in retail shops. The cards, with advanced flash memory products, are being marketed to users of Secure Digital format digital cameras, under an agreement that Kodak and Lexar announced in 2004.

"By using a KODAK memory card that reduces the lag time between shots and optimizes full-motion video capture capability on some cameras, our customers will be ready for anything that comes their way," Kodak's general manager of global memory Claudio D'Amico, said in a prepared statement.

The cards are available in capacities of 512 MB and 1GB this month. Larger capacity cards will be available later this year.

A J.D. Power's study found that digital camera buyers gave Kodak the highest marks and were most likely to be pleased with the speed and functions of their cameras if they purchased on the lower end. However, the gap between satisfaction among high and low end buyers is narrowing, according to the study, which was released earlier this year.
