BANGALORE, India — IP and design services specialist GDS Technologies Inc. has unveiled a modular phone reference board design intended to cut development time for multimedia-capable cellphones.

Its Smart Phone Reference Platform was developed at the GDS’s development center in Chennai, India. It uses a modular PDA phone reference design based on Freescale's iMX31 multimedia application processor running at up to 532 MHz.

Besides mobile handsets and smart phones, the platform can also be used for MP3 players, PDAs and video conferencing devices, GDA said. It can also be used to help creat an iMX31 platform.

GDA (San Jose, Calif.) is licensing IP for the platform and will also offer customization services.
