Broadcom on Wednesday unveiled an advanced array of Bluetooth for Windows features, including headset control for PC music and VoIP functions.
Broadcom BTW Version 6.1 supports Windows Vista and is aimed at PC makers to let them offer a range of new applications for PC users to experience new wireless audio and entertainment capabilities. The Broadcom software operates with Microsoft's Vista-resident Bluetooth software.
The Broadcom offering also paves the way for PC users to implement advanced Bluetooth profiles for printing, digital imaging, file transfer, and file synchronization. A dial-up networking wizard simplifies the connection between Internet-connected notebooks and Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones.
"The wizard detects the network carrier, the correct phone settings, and automatically populates the information in the appropriate screens," according to Broadcom. "This provides mobile consumers with hassle-free connectivity in places without a wired or Wi-Fi connection."
Broadcom also said it has updated its BTW-Mobile software for links between mobile phones, headsets, and hands-free car kits.
"Bluetooth has already achieved widespread adoption in mobile phones, and the technology is making significant inroads into the notebook PC market," said Celeste Crystal, IDC senior analyst, in a statement. "In 2006, over 25.8% of notebook PCs featured Bluetooth technology."
