The Optical Storage Technology Association (OSTA) is preparing to launch an initiative that it says may resolve the incompatibility issues that currently cloud the future of rewritable DVD technology.

There are currently a handful of proprietary rewritable DVD specs, the most prominent being DVD-RAM and DVD+RW.

OSTA, which created the MultiRead specification that makes it possible to read all CD discs on CD and DVD drives, will divulge details of the initiative next week.
