BEAVERTON, Ore. — Summit Design Inc. has added support for the Linux operating system to VirSim, its Verilog debugging environment. In another enhancement, VirSim now has high-performance data compression feature that reduces the size of history files.

VirSim is included with every copy of Synopsys Inc.'s VCS product, and is licensed by Summit Design for other Verilog simulators. It includes a hierarchy browser, waveform window, logic browser, source window and register window.

The new data-compression feature promises a seven-to-ten fold file size reduction for simulation data, resulting in files 100 times smaller than regular VCD format files, the company said.. The new compact database is compatible across all supported platforms.

VirSim floating licenses are $4,900; the data-compression feature is included at no additional cost. In addition to Linux, supported platforms include Unix and Windows NT.
