HOUSTON, TEXAS Compaq Computer has introduced the UPS R-3000 XR, one of the industry's first 2U (3.5-inch) rack-mount uninterruptible power supplies (UPSes) offering 3 kilovolt-amperes per 2.7 kilowatts, thus qualifying it as one of the smallest and most power-efficient of its kind.
Key to the high power density is the UPS' off-line, Line-Interactive Plus topology, which employs a digital signal processor in place of relays and a transformer to control a three-stage power conditioner. The topology is said to achieve more efficient voltage regulation and to secure better noise immunity with fewer components, thus maximizing mean time between failure.
Other features include increased system uptime with optional extended run-time modules, enhanced system flexibility with three independently controlled load segments, and patented battery management circuitry that doubles battery service life and provides advance notice of pending battery failure. It also features hot-swappable batteries and easy serviceability through modular design and supports remote emergency power-off circuitry. Networking features include enterprisewide intelligent manageability provided by bundled power management software and easy configuration through an enhanced front-panel display.
The UPS comes equipped with a standard serial communications port via an internal slot. That option slot supports two option cards, the Six Port Card and the SNMP/Serial Port Card, which seamlessly integrate into the R3000 XR. The UPS is backed by a limited three-year warranty, the company's Pre-Failure warranty and a $25,000 load-protection guarantee (certain restrictions and exclusions apply). It's priced at $1,703.
