LONDON Java specialist Aplix is joining with Bluetooth vendor Rococo Software for an integrated Java-Bluetooth platform targeted at mobile phone OEMs and integrators.
The alliance will enable mobile phone manufacturers to implement a single, integrated solution for Java-Bluetooth technology support in Aplix's JBlend Java virtual machine (JVM) environment. The companies will jointly market and sell the platform.
The JBlend platform is one of the most widely used for running Java applications in mobile phones. It includes a high-performance, small-footprint JVM environment for a variety of configurations (CLDC, CDC) and profiles/extensions (MIDP, i-mode DoJa, Sprint and others). It has already been implemented in more than 20 million handsets worldwide.
Rococo's JSR-82 software gives equipment manufacturers access to Bluetooth technology through the Java platform. The companies said the partnership will speed the adoption of Bluetooth into handsets.
"The combination of Rococo's Java-Bluetooth technology and the JBlend platform provides customers with a top-quality JSR-82 solution jointly developed by two Java industry leaders: Rococo, which played an integral role in defining the JSR-82 standard and Aplix, the global leader in deploying Java technology in mobile phones," Michael Leone, chief technology officer of Aplix Corporation of America, said in a statement.
