1.5A LDO + Regulator Monitors Current & Temperature

LDO+ regulators do more than just regulate. They include monitor and control functions as well as regulation. The LT3081 has a wide safe area, allowing operation with high currents at high input/output differentials. Output voltage is adjustable from from 0 to 37 volts, and it withstands reverse voltage. In addition to regulating, it has a current monitor output, providing an analog output current proportional to the output of the regulator. Current limit can be adjusted with a single external resistor. A second monitor current is proportional to the chip temperature. This output can be used to monitor the health of the system and airflow and is useful in debugging.

Unlike any other regulator, the LT3081 output capacitor is optional. It’s stable with no output or input capacitor. The LT3081 can be used in areas where intrinsic safety is important, or it can be used as a current source. Finally, it’s adjustable down to zero volts, which means as the logic voltages go lower and lower, this will never be obsolesced.

What are the engineering and design challenges in creating successful IoT devices? These devices are usually small, resource-constrained electronics designed to sense, collect, send, and/or interpret data. Some of the devices need to be smart enough to act upon data in real time, 24/7. Specifically the guests will discuss sensors, security, and lessons from IoT deployments.
