When off doesn't really mean off
So, I have five phones on my Verizon plan. I've had a mobile phone since my first day on the job at Microwaves & RF magazine some 17 years ago (yes, it was huge, and expensive, but technically a mobile phone nonetheless). I tell you all this by way of explaining that I am by no means a mobile phone newbie.
Yet, today, I found myself in the Verizon Wireless store chuckling at the representative 'fixed' my mobile phone. You see, the phone rang, but I couldn't hear the caller. I could dial, but my target person couldn't hear me. The microphone and speaker, I explained to the tech, are both not functioning. The solution? Remove the battery, replace it, and try again.
When I handed the phone back to my spouse later today, he asked how they fixed it. I said "They fixed it with Microsoft reboot." For years we've been turning errant computers off and back on again to clear up issues, but it never occurred to me to try it with my phone. So, today, learning occurred. Perhaps that will save me (or you) at trip to the mobile phone store in the future...
