MANHASSET, NY The microcontrollers market will likely exceed a value of $12 billion for 2010, according to a market research firm.
Databeans is expecting 11 percent revenue growth for 2010 over last year.
The firm maintains that microcontrollers constitute a relatively consistent components market for generating revenue.
Databeans lists the top microcontroller suppliers as Renesas, Freescale, NEC, Infineon, Fujitsu, and Microchip, with a combined market share of about 60 percent.
The microcontroller market continues to be driven primarily by the automotive and industrial sectors.
Communications applications are contributing significant growth, coming from the latest cell phone and "smartphone" designs, where cost-effective solutions can provide complex processing at a low power consumption.
Recently Silicon Laboratories Inc. began offering a family of wireless transceivers that are mated to a line of ultra-low-power microcontrollers to create a family of a dozen wireless microcontrollers.
