FREMONT, Calif.--April 21, 2003--Centillium Communications, innovator of broadband communications technology, introduced the Entropia III, its fourth-generation VoIP processor, the highest density, lowest power, and most cost-effective SoC solution on the market today.
Integrating unprecedented DSP power and network processing resources, the Entropia III supports over 1,000 VoIP channels on a single chip while concurrently supplying carrier-class echo cancellation and a comprehensive set of telephony features. Such an unparalleled level of integration and unsurpassed chip density enable system vendors to achieve the highest solution density for highly scaleable gateway designs.
"The Entropia III is at least one generation beyond any competitive solutions on the market today," said Fima Vaisman, vice president VoP marketing for Centillium.
The Entropia III also shatters previous power records by providing a complete solution at under 3 mW per channel. Such revolutionary advances in power-saving technology provide direct product and service cost savings, and enable highly efficient designs.
"Centillium's Entropia III raises the bar for on-chip processing performance in VoIP infrastructure applications," said Gerry Kaufhold, Principal Analyst at In-Stat/MDR. "The industry will benefit because VoIP is becoming cost-competitive with TDM."
The Entropia III takes full advantage of TSMC's advanced 0.13 µm process to enable the industry-leading level of integration. Hardware acceleration, TDM cross-connects, and multiple packet interfaces are embedded into the solution to reduce board component count, provide flexibility, and offer significant savings. The integration of DSPs and network processing on the same chip offers significant gains in delay optimization, a key factor in achieving carrier-class voice quality.
A comprehensive suite of vocoders, unmatched echo-cancellation performance, concurrent support for VoIP over Ethernet and AAL5, as well as VoATM AAL1 and AAL2 provide a rich feature set and flexibility that system vendors require to migrate to next-generation networks.
For Centillium's existing customers, Entropia III offers a comprehensive programmable high-level API that maintains full compatibility with previous APIs.
Leading OEMs worldwide have embraced Entropia III's breakthrough architecture, and are in advanced phases of system design. The Entropia III is currently available, with volume pricing at less than $1 per channel.
