Melbourne, Fla.--Jan. 26, 1998--Harris Semiconductor and Data Communications Technologies (DCT) are bringing high-performance wireless technology to the market. DCT will offer 2.4-GHz, 2 Mbit/s, wireless ethernet devicesthat support both ad-hoc and infrastructure modes for wireless localarea networks (WLAN) and other applications, based on Harris's PrismWLAN chipset. These devices will support the most popular operatingsystems, including Windows 95, Windows NT, Windows for Work Groups (3.11), Netware, and OS2.
At the end of the month, DCT will unveil this technology at ComNet'98in Washington D.C. This technology has already generated a greatdeal of interest by being nominated as a finalist for the New ProductAchievement Award. This prestigious competition recognizesthe best new products for 1998.
Harris will provide its Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum(DSSS) advanced wireless radio chipset technology--called Prism--and DCT will integrate into systems which include PCMCIA cards, ISA Cards, and Access Points. The products--Virtualnet, Virtualnet-ISA and Virtualnet-AP--integrate the entire Prism chip set which will meet the IEEE 802.11 standard.
