San Francisco--June 16--Mentor Graphics Corp.(Wilsonville, Ore.) announced the immediate availability of Renoir '98, an even more powerful version of its HDL graphical design environment. Renoir '98 features include interactivity with IP cores, enhanced designbrowsing and enhanced HDL to graphics for state machines and flow charts.
Renoir '98 includes HDL2graphics, with which designerscan automatically read in VHDL, Verilog or mixed-HDL text code and creategraphical designs, including block diagrams, state machines and flow charts.Renoir '98 can handle HDL designs using the full 100percent VHDL IEEE 1987 and 1993 standards, 100 percent IEEE Verilog standard,or a mix of VHDL and Verilog on all platforms.
Renoir '98 uses cross-referencing tointegrate all error and warning messages from downstream simulationand/or synthesis tools. Renoir also provides an option to perform a full semantic check during HDL generation. The interfaces to Synopsys' Designcompiler and Exemplar'sLeonardo-Spectrum have also been enhanced to include user-definedsynthesis control scripts containing pre- or post-analyze and elaboratecommands.
A design iteration toolbar button is now available inall windows to quickly regenerate and re-compile the active design unit, including any changed hierarchical design unit views and views of referencedcomponents when appropriate. Toolbars can be fixed or floating and includeall standard Windows file-management and editing buttons as well asRenoir's diagramming and editing tools.
Renoir '98 includes a new text find-and-replacefacility across all editors and through hierarchical diagrams. Usingconstraints to limit the scope, designers can now make changes to entirehierarchical designs that would have been impossible in a text-basedenvironment. The Renoir Design Browser now offers visibility of concurrentand hierarchical state machines or flow charts and a top-of-design marker withvisibility control.
An updated interface to Rationale's Clearcase designmanagement facilities supports multiple-versioned object bases. Thisinterface gives designers the power to browse existing libraries in theversion control database and view new individual design units that do notalready exist in private workspaces.
In addition, the printer page setup can now be saved for each diagram anddesigners can print the displayed view as an alternative to the entire activediagram. It is also possible to print a complete hierarchy of diagrams andHDL text views from the design browser. Header and footer information is alsoincluded on each page.
Pricing for Renoir '98 starts at $4,000. Renoir '98 is availableimmediately on Sun, Solaris, HP-UX and Windows NT/95 platforms, andsupports additional plug-in interfaces to Model Technology's Modelsim, MentorGraphics' Monet, Exemplar's Leonardo-Spectrum, Synopsys' Design Compiler,VCS, FPGA Express and VSS, and Cadence's Verilog-XL andLeapfrog. All interfaces, and the HDL2Graphics, are included at no extracharge. Renoir '98 is year 2000-compliant and has been developed using ISO9001-approved procedures.
