MUNICH, Germany Automotive supplier Bosch group (Stuttgart, Germany) has launched the production of electronic control units (ECU)s in Bangalore. The production will serve the growing demand from local automotive OEMs.
The production spectrum includes ECUs for diesel and gasoline fuel injection systems. The first batch of the production will be supplied to car manufacturer Tata, the company said. Tata will use the ECUs for its ultra-low cost car Nano. According to Bosch's principle "Local for Local", the production will serve Indian demand in the first place; in addition, the company plans to supply OEMs in other emerging markets, a Bosch spokesperson explained.
The total investment in the production line will be 19 million (about $26 million) over the years between 2008 and 2010. Currently, the production has a headcount of about 60 employees. Bosch plans to increase the capacity according to the demand from Indian car manufacturers. When full capacity will be reached around the year 2010, the headcount will be about 300 employees.
