# Developing non-inertial navigation devices

The joint effort of Appcon Group Inc. and Parker Technology Co. has reached its first goal in the development of Non-Inertial Navigation (NIN) devices. The design, development and test of the Transverse Velocity Detector proof-of-concept model open a new chapter in air and space navigation.

The TVD is an optoelectronic device that utilizes independence of propagation of light in vacuum from forces of inertia. The TVD became the first device in the history of navigation that directly measures an object velocity from within the object in motion, and only the motion itself. The bench test of the proof-of-concept TVD model (overall dimensions of 2”x3”x6”) produced continuous readings that corresponded to velocities ranging between 67m/sec. and 322m/sec. These velocities are equivalent to take-off/landing and cruising speeds of commercial airliners.* Figure 1* shows the dual summa vector oscilloscope type diagram of the test, providing a visual reference of the proof-of-concept test results.
