Milpitas, Calif. - A device from Linear Technology Corp. allows supply rails to be adjusted up and down with precision during automated pc-board testing, a process known as margining. The LTC2920 power supply margining controller helps validate correct operation of electrical components at a design's upper and lower power supply voltage limits, the company said.
The device adjusts the power supply voltage by sourcing or sinking current into the feedback node of the controller chip or the voltage adjust pin of the regulator module. The output current is settable over a 400:1 range and the margin voltage precision of less than 0.4 percent guarantees accurate margining tests, LTC said.
The LTC2920-1, in a five-pin SOT-23, is designed for use with a single supply. The LTC2920-2, packaged in an eight-pin MSOP, has two independently controllable margining channels. Prices start at $1.20.
