Bridgewater, N.J. Hamamatsu Corp. said its new S9251 series of silicon (Si) avalanche photodiodes (APDs) deliver excellent sensitivity in the near infrared (NIR) range and high operational stability for use as a rangefinder and in spatial light transmission applications such as optical telecommunications systems and digital computers.
The four photodiodes cover a spectral response range of 440 nm to 1100 nm and achieve peak photosensitivity of 0.52 A/W at 860 nm. The S9251 series also achieves a peak Quantum Efficiency (QE) of 72 percent at 900 nm.
Typical dark current for the S9251-02, S9251-05, S9251-10, S9251-15 is 0.1 nA, 0.2 nA, 0.4 nA, and 0.8 nA, respectively. Both the S9251-02 and S9251-05 offer a 400 MHz cutoff frequency, while the cutoff frequency is 380 MHz and 350 MHz for the S9251-10 and S9251-15, respectively. Effective active areas range from 0.2-mm diameter for the S9251-02 to 1.5-mm diameter for the S9251-15.
The S9251-02 and S9251-05 are packaged in TO-18 cans while the S9251-10 and S9251-15 are available in TO-5 cans. The operating temperature range of the S9251 devices is 20°C to 85°C.
