Radstone Embedded Computing announces the Octegra3, a flexible, high performance, cost-effective and rugged video and graphics processor. Targeted at a broad range of applications including C4I (Command, Control, Communications, Computers & Intelligence), Octegra3 provides a seamlessly transparent technology insertion for its predecessor, Octegra2.
Key features include state of the art graphics performance, dual head display capability, workstation-class computing performance, flexible video streaming architecture, video extensions mezzanine capability, 6U VME form factor, and availability in five ruggedization levels.
The card's increased performance derives from the uprating of virtually every component on the board.A Freescale Semiconductor PowerPC G4 7447A processor running at 1 GHz (with integrated 512 KBytes L2 cache) replaces the 400 MHz G3 750 processor while a 3Dlabs P9 VPU (Visual Processing Units) with 128 MBytes of double data rate SDRAM replaces two 3Dlabs Permedia 3 VPUs. The computing node of Octegra3 uses 256 MBytes of double data rate (DDR) SDRAM, compared with Octegra2's use of single data rate (SDR) memory, while wider, higher speed bus architectures are implemented. Further, Octegra3 offers support for Gigabit Ethernet.
The flexible video architecture of Octegra3 allows system designers to deliver multiple sensor images to the user, bringing vital situational awareness to the point of use and enabling superior decision-making performance. Applications may select from up to eight video inputs, and the video input mezzanine philosophy allows an application specific mix of input formats.
With dual channel output, based on state of the art Visual Processing Units from 3Dlabs, Octegra3 provides significant graphics generation performance, and the ability to drive a wide variety of video output formats.
Additionally, Octegra3 incorporates a workstation-class computing node to drive high-end applications, delivering a single-slot solution comprising video, graphics and computing power.
The substantially reduced cost of Octegra3 is a result of a high degree of component integration, coupled with the use of a much simpler non-sequential manufacturing process compared to Octegra2's sequential manufacturing process.
Octegra3 will benefit applications in many areas, including mission computers, radar and sonar displays, surveillance and UAV control.
