St. Charles, Ill. Perllo Technologies LLC and manufacturing partner ECM Electronics Ltd. have introduced a new series of lead-free power inductors for automotive and industrial control applications. Developed to help power supply engineers design more power efficient circuits, the new compact ECxxC series provides better reflow solderability and higher current handling capability than other low-profile solutions, said the company.
Housed in a 6 x 6 x 2.8-mm package, the low-profile ECxxC inductor series features an inductance value range of 1.2 μH to 1.5 mH and current handling up to 10 amps. It also provides a mean time to failure (MTTF) of greater than one million hours of operation.
The ECxxC devices use a 180°C (Class H) insulation system and operates in a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C. In addition, the core material is not susceptible to thermal aging. Potential applications in the automotive market include power supplies, anti-lock braking systems, LCD displays and dc/dc converters.
The low-profile design minimizes board real estate requirements, maximizes power density and provides excellent co-planarity, said the company. It also reduces failure modes often found with plating and solder-terminated wires and leads. The ferrite shielding makes it suitable for applications with a broad frequency range of operation where high "Q" inductors aren't desired.
Pricing starts at $0.37, depending on quantity. Delivery is eight weeks.
