Santa Clara, Calif. & Yokneam, IsraelMellanox Technologies Ltd. is offering embedded systems manufacturers what it claims are the industry's only 10- and 20-Gbits/s InfiniBand I/O adapters that deliver 1 microsecond (µs) application latencies.
The ConnectX IB fourth-generation InfiniBand host channel adapters (HCAs) are designed to balance I/O connectivity performance with powerful multi-core processors responsible for executing mission-critical functions in storage, servers and other embedded systems.
"Today's servers integrate multiple dual and quad-core processors with high bandwidth memory subsystems, yet the I/O limitations of Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel effectively degrades the system's overall performance," said Eyal Waldman, chairman, president and CEO of Mellanox Technologies, in a statement.
The ConnectX IB fourth-generation InfiniBand HCAs are intended to resolve those issues with the following features. They are capable of providing 1-µs RDMA write latency and 1.2-µs MPI ping latency, and a uni-directional MPI message rate of 25 million messages-per-second. The InfiniBand ports connect to the host processor through a PCI Express x8 interface.
In addition, they extend network processing offload and optimize traffic and fabric management. New capabilities include hardware reliable multicast, enhanced atomic operations, hardware-based congestion control and granular quality of service.
The ConnectX IB fourth-generation InfiniBand HCAs integrate stateless-offload engines to alleviate the host processor from compute-intensive protocol stack processing which optimizes application execution efficiency.
Scalable and reliable connected transport services and shared receive queues enhance scalability of high-performance applications to tens of thousands of nodes. The ConnectX IB fourth-generation InfiniBand HCAs also offer hardware-based I/O virtualization.
Pricing: 10K volume pricing for ConnectX IB HCA silicon adapters is $165 (dual-port 10Gbits/s) and $215 (dual-port 10 or 20-Gbits/s). 10K volume pricing for ConnectX IB HCA adapter cards is $369 (dual-port 10-Gbits/s) and $479 (dual port 10 or 20-Gbits/s).
Availability: ConnectX IB InfiniBand HCA silicon devices and PCI Express-based adapter cards are sampling today, and general availability is expected in the second quarter of 2007.
