This is interesting--I'd like to know some more.  It seems the point is to replace the high-powered computations using differential equations with a simpler function.  Is that a neural net?  Why is the training done using the model instead of the real data? I didn't quite understand the ultimate goal.  Is it to allow the user to replicate the supercomputer sim on their phone?  Since the user already has to download a lot of weather data to generate a prediction, it seems like it would still be easier to run this on a server and just let users download the predictions.
