NV Memory Still Needed...
dviera   10/25/2017 6:28:09 PM
We think that this concept of extracting the non-volatile memory from the MCU could be the beginning of a trend. It makes sense to not embed the flash; since that adds layers and expense to the silicon. Without embedded flash, it also means that MCU manufacturers can use smaller process nodes to improve performance and lower cost. But NV memory is still needed. It just moves outside the MCU and must be optimized to work with the microcontroller. As a memory manufacturer, we've been working to ensure that these new "NVM-free" MCUs have companion memory that can used to execute-in-place, such as our EcoXiP memory.  When users see the system performance of these new MCUs in an XiP system, we think they will be impressed.
