Sounds like it's not a Phi and a lot more than just that. Given the limited volumes and wide range of requirements, maybe it would be best (and the right time) to offer modularity with advanced packaging. Just a wilde speculation.

A new Xeon Phi architecture for exascale...presumably much better perf/watt...very interesting

Just spotted this "One step we're taking is to replace one of the future Intel® Xeon Phi™ processors (code name Knights Hill) with a new platform and new microarchitecture specifically designed for exascale."

https://itpeernetwork.intel.com/unleashing-high-performance-computing/

Intel's roadmap is more fluid than ever, if they keep it up they might drown. Granted, the most interesting question today is what will Raja Koduri do, will he recognize that the PC has no future and focus on new form factors at the edge, or is he too much of a PC guy to accept reality. Intel's very survival could depend on this.

Oh come on now China beating the US at something?

I could have sworn that some politician who is now president said something to the effect that this won't happen.

I'm sure that there's nothing to worry about because as soon as this administration finds jobs for 50 to 100 out of work coal miners then this administration will begin to concentrate on the tech sector.

Not new trends but it's interesting that in the top 5 , 4 are based on ZettaScaler-2.2 and one on Volta. Or the difference in efficiency between Titan (Nvidia Kepler from 2011) and Piz Daint (Nvidia Pascal).

ZettaScaler-2.2 is new though, uses Intel Xeon D (Atom cores) and PEZY SC-2. s.The Atom core is wimpy and rather large, ARM would be a better fit in future such system EDIT: Xeon D is using Broadwell cores not Atom.

I suppose in the next top we should see a lot more Volta, some AMD Epyc(lots of PCIe lanes for accelerators) and further down the road that AMD JV in China is related to Sugon so , maybe they tape-out next year?

I did not notice a new or different hardware trend in the Green500. What did you see?

Covering the Green500 would be interesting too, efficiency is important and , in this case, it shows where the hardware is heading.
