There might be heat related issue by going smaller with copper, specially for a CPU.

Cobalt is about 4x more resistive than copper. It looks like its insertion is related to pitch.

Copper Forever, Except Intel

The only major semiconductor make who does not appear to be on the copper-forever bandwagon is Intel, which is proposing the use of cobal instead. Opponents say that cobalt is tolerable for the bottom layers, but that it will slow down processors and memory if used all the way up. What is your opinion? Is Intel a black-sheep or a pioneer?
