Elephants travel in a herd so the sensors could form a swarm, that would help with power management and maybe to better locate the gunshot.
Edit: how bothered are elephants by drones and could the batteries be recharged wirelessly with RF (15-30 feet range) or IR laser (line of sight complications)?
