I figure this is something he knew had to be done (Tanner was COO from 2009 to this February) and thought it best to get to it now before his focus gets too far along the CEO vista and his operational knowledge turns stale.

Incoming CEO Gary Tanner has wasted no time in wielding the axe. If this is what Tanner does when Zarlink delivers "the strongest top line results in the company's history," I hate to think what he would do if Zarlink put in a bad quarter.
