A better solution than batteries would be road-embedded electromagnetic propulsion. This would provide a linear motor powered directly from the grid.

A $20,000 EV sounds good, I assume having a shorter than 300-mile/charge range. Well, 7-8 percent battery improvement per year ain't much, but we'll take it!

It is really a very stringent requirement of the present day that automotive batteries as will get some form of Moor's Law. Straubel's quote of 7 to 8 percent increase in the battery performance every year is not sufficient for usage of batteries for automotive purpose for longer run.
